Our Team

Our staff is comprised of both full time and retired law enforcement officers, with years of experience as active and retired canine handlers and trainers.

I’ve been a Deputy Sheriff for over 23 years with two California Sheriff’s Office’s.  I started my career working for the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.  I developed and established Lassen County’s first canine unit.  I handled and trained two police service canines, one single purpose narcotics detection canine and one crossed trained patrol and narcotics detection canine.  I was on Lassen County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team where I operated a dog. I was assigned to the courts division and patrol division where I was able to work many different types of cases.

I’m currently working for the Butte County Sheriff’s Office where I have been for over 16 years.  I’ve handled and trained two police service canines with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, one crossed trained patrol and explosive detection canine and one crossed trained patrol and narcotics detection canine.  I was assigned to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team for over 8 years where I operated two different canines for the team.  I established Butte County Sheriff’s Office first DHE (Domestic Highway Enforcement) program in 2013 where I worked with a canine.  I was an FTO (field training officer) with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office for many years.  I was promoted to Detective and assigned to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit with a canine.  I was promoted to Sergeant with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office where I worked a canine on patrol for many years.  I have hundreds of documented in field deployments with canines and thousands of hours of training police service dogs.  I’ve testified and given canine explanations in court regarding canine training and pretrial readiness preparation with canine handlers and DDA’s. I was promoted to Lieutenant where I in charge of, Internal Affairs, Backgrounds Unit, Training Division, Civil Unit, Patrol Administration, Courts, Records Division and CCW handling along with the K-9 Unit’s supervision and training. I was promoted to Captain where I have been assigned to the services division of the organization that includes the supervision and training of the K-9 Unit.

I worked as a regional canine trainer for a large K-9 training company for over 4 years, training police canines and running monthly maintenance trainings for many Law Enforcement agencies.  I’m an instructor for California POST canine evaluators class.  I’ve owned and operated Meyer’s Police Canine Training LLC, training law enforcement canines, importing and selling dogs, running advanced and basic handler schools and classes, decoy instruction, narcotics and explosive detection training, monthly maintenance training and assisting in canine unit organization.  I’ve co-taught many canine case law update classes to Law Enforcement handlers and administrators and have attended many different police service seminars and conferences over the years. In 2023, I provided subject matter expert testimony at the California state capital in opposition of AB-742

 

Amie Meyer is the wife of Brad Meyer (Owner) and mother to their two beautiful daughters.  Amie has worked in the office setting since she was 16 years old.  Amie has been a receptionist in different dental offices where she handled many front office duties.  Amie owned and operated her own business for about 7 years.  When Meyer’s Police K9 Training started growing after their 1st year of being in business Amie and Brad decided it was time for Amie to work only for the K9 business.  Amie now works as         co-owner with Brad and is in charge of HR and many other tasks. She handles all the accounts payable and accounts receivable for the business.  Amie also coordinates all the courses we offer and is in charge of registration and the schedule.

Craig Edwards discovered his love for working dogs in 1996, when he became a decoy for a local dog trainer working with numerous law enforcement agencies. Craig worked in law enforcement for over 24 years and recently retired in 2023. In 2015, he got the privilege of handling a dual purpose (patrol and narcotics) Belgian Malinois for 8 years. During that time he and his K9 partner have logged thousands of hours of training and have participated in numerous operations with multiple law enforcement agencies which led to many narcotics seizures and arrests. Craig has given court testimony in Preliminary Hearings and Court Trials regarding his K9 training and deployments.

Craig has worked with Meyer’s Police K-9 Training as a handler since 2015. He then became a trainer in 2023. He works with several law enforcement agencies conducting monthly maintenance training and assisting with the Basic Handlers Courses.


Brian Peterson
Brian Peterson has been training dogs for more than 30 years and is currently the lead trainer for our Basic Handler Course. But it wasn’t until he was introduced to the world of working dogs in 1993 when, acquiring a puppy out of the top scoring US protection dog at the World Shutzhund Championships, did he become addicted to protection sports. Since then he has trained for and competed in Shutzhund/IGP and Working Dogs of America (WDA) trials, earning top honors at events around the country. He has studied with many of the top protection sports trainers in the US and Europe, along with attending Police K9 seminars and conferences to further develop his skills as a K9 trainer and instructor.

Brian is the current President of Working Dogs of America, a WDA certified trainer and trial decoy/helper, a Shutzhund/IGP certified trial helper, an AKC canine evaluator and an WDA obedience, tracking and protection judge. He is also a member in good standing with the International Association of Canine Professionals. As a canine behaviorist, Brian is committed to balancing the latest operant and classical conditioning strategies with time-tested training methods to get the most reliable obedience and controlled aggression performance out of each K9 team.

Garrett Snyder has been a police officer at a large Law Enforcement agency in California for 14 years. Garrett started his Law Enforcement career working patrol in the Salinas/Monterey area. Garrett spent the majority of his first 2 years as a motor officer. In addition to regular patrol duties, Garrett was selected and served on the area’s Protective Services Detail (PSD). Garett participated in numerous motorcades and escorts and assisted in site security for multiple dignitaries including Governor Schwarzenegger and the First Lady. Garrett also worked gang enforcement details with the Salinas Police Department Violence Suppression Unit (VSU) and Gang Task Force (GTF) and participated in patrol details for the Hells Angels Hollister/Gilroy rally.

Garrett transferred to Trinity County where he has worked patrol for the last 12 years. During his time in Trinity County, Garrett has been recognized by his Department for his proactive efforts in highway drug trafficking interdiction, with thousands of pounds of narcotics seized and hundreds of thousands of dollars of U.S. currency seized through traffic enforcement. Garrett works closely with allied agencies in Trinity County and has provided guidance and assisted as lethal cover for canine handlers during numerous tracking/trailing deployments through rough forest terrain, resulting in successful apprehension of violent and sometimes armed fleeing felons.

Garrett began working with canines while volunteering as a decoy for the Trinity County Sheriff’s Department. Garrett was invited to, and attended, a Decoy/Agitators class held by a large canine company. At the conclusion of the class, Garrett was offered a regional decoy job by the company. Garrett worked for the company as a regional decoy for 2 years, training with many different Law Enforcement agencies and canine trainers throughout California. Garrett assisted Brad Meyer in forming Meyer’s Police Canine Training and continues to work with Brad. Garrett has been invited to decoy in numerous police canine trials, including WSPCA. Garrett takes pride in building strong working dogs and regularly makes himself available to assist handlers with demonstrations for schools, police academies, public events, and fund raisers.


Jaret has been working with dogs his whole life. He grew up around hunting dogs and seeing them hunt their way through fields, he knew he would want to work dogs later in life. He has always had a passion in the dog world. He started his police k9 work in 2015. Jaret was volunteering with a local Police Department decoying for their dogs for a year. He then got offered a job at Meyer’s Police K9 as a decoy. He has worked over a hundred dogs in the years throughout northern California. He takes pride in his work and strives to make the handler and k9 a better team by the end of the day. He holds high expectations for the handlers and k9’s because he knows the work ethic they are capable of. He has been invited to different dog trials around the area to decoy such as WSPCA. Jaret hopes to go into law enforcement and run a dog of his own someday.

Elizabeth Norton is a retired veteran California prosecutor. Her career spans over 3 decades. Prior to retirement, she ran a felony team of specialized prosecutors, as well as maintained her own trial caseload of gang and homicide cases. During the calendar year of 2023, Elizabeth worked as a consultant and acting Chief Deputy District Attorney in Sutter County, and wrote policies, repaired justice partner relationships, taught courtroom success sessions for law enforcement as well as new DDAs and acted as mentor and teacher while bringing in new and appropriate changes to the DA’s office to bring them into the 21st century.

Elizabeth has handled virtually every type of criminal case, including taking two cold homicide cases to murder verdicts despite no forensic evidence, no recovered murder weapon and no formal confession. In addition, Elizabeth is an expert in narcotics cases, particularly in marijuana and BHO cases. Elizabeth is a sought-after instructor, having taught many subjects at Cal Northern School of Law, College of the Redwoods, Redwoods Academy (POST Academy) and has provided training in Criminal Law, Search and Seizure, Courtroom Presentation and Survival Tactics and K9 Law to law enforcement handlers and supervisors. In the community, she has given presentations to community members regarding sexual assault and domestic violence. 

Elizabeth believes in giving back to the community and has served on many community boards and committees. From 2008 to 2018, Elizabeth coached the Las Plumas High School Mock Trial Team through county and state competitions. She has participated in Teen Court, Reality Check, and Every 15 Minutes, all criminal justice programs for teenagers. Her peers have recognized her dedication to excellence; she is the recipient of many awards from the community and from her peers in law enforcement. 

Elizabeth is now employed by Meyer’s Police K9 Training as an instructor and legal consultant. Each month, Elizabeth reviews current cases that affect K9 teams from around the country to remain up to date on decisions and trends. She co-teaches a class several times a year about the up-to-date law that applies to K9 teams and their agencies. This class is always well attended; students have included California and other states sheriffs and police departments, Fish and Wildlife, and CHP and Border Patrol. She is available for consultation on wide ranging issues, including policy review, courtroom training as a class or on a specific case and other issues facing today’s law enforcement. 

 


Jacob Smith has been around his Grandma’s Rottweiler business his whole life and always had a love for dogs, especially working dogs. Jacob was in Martial Arts doing 3 years of kick boxing and 11 years of jujitsu and was ranked a brown belt. Martial Arts Training is where he made a connection with Meyer’s Police K9 Training. He has been working for Meyer’s Police K9 Training since 2018 and very much enjoys being an agitator for the K9’s and their handlers.  He continues to learn more and more about reading the dogs and being able to help the handlers be successful with their training.
