Meyer’s Police Canine Training LLC & Tarheel Canine Training, Inc has teamed up to host a 3 day (24 hour) hard surface tracking course. As urban and suburban areas are becoming more and more the place where police K9 tracking dogs are being deployed, yet many dogs through being trained only on soft surfaces may be ineffective in such environments. In this 3-day course you will teach your dog to perform efficiently on hard surface tracks resulting in more apprehensions in the toughest conditions. Our instructor: Jerry Bradshaw, Training Director, Tarheel Canine Training, Inc. (Bio).

Jerry Bradshaw is Training Director & President of Tarheel Canine Training, Inc. (www.tarheelcanine.com) in Sanford, North Carolina. Jerry is the co-founder, executive director, International Regional Director, and director of judging for The Protection Sports Association (www.psak9.org) as well as a founding director and evaluator of the National Tactical Police Dog Association (www.tacticalcanine.com) known as NTPDA.

Jerry has been training dogs for competitive protection sports since 1991, been a member of IPO sport clubs and the training director of Tarheel Canine PSA one of the most successful PSA clubs in the country. Jerry has competed in National Championship trials in both IPO and PSA, winning the PSA National Championships in 2003 with his dog Ricardo v.d. Natuurzicht PSA 3. Jerry has trained many Belgian Malinois to the highest titles in the sports in which he competed including Arrow of Tigerpaws , SchH 3 (5x), BH; Ben von Lowenfels, SchH 2, BH; Rocky de la Maison Des Lions BH, PPD1, PSA 3; and Ricardo v.d. Natuurzicht PH 1, PPD 1, PSA 3. He is currently training Raptor PDC, PSA 1, PSA 2 and Drago PDC, PSA 1, PSA 2 (1L) for further titles in PSA, and has been inducted into the PSA Hall of Fame along with his two PSA 3 dogs, Rocky and Ricardo. Jerry and K9 Raptor were PSA 2 National Vice Champions in 2016, and K9 Raptor and K9 Drago were 2017 PSA 2 Champion and Vice Champion respectively. Jerry is a member of the Sch3 Club, Gold Sports medal holder in IPO, and the PSA 3 club (2 time member). Many of Jerry’s employees and students have gone on to very successful careers in police K9 training and administration, DOD Contracting, sport competition and canine training after starting their careers at Tarheel Canine’s School for Dog Trainers.

Tarheel Canine Training Inc. is a nationally renowned training facility for police service dogs, and has placed trained police dogs at UD DOD, federal, state and local law enforcement agencies nationally and internationally since 1993. Jerry is often a featured speaker at national police K9 conferences on topics ranging from detection and tactical obedience to aggression control, and has given training seminars around the world. He has given seminars on both SAR and USAR for Taiwan’s National Fire Agency, Lectured on Canine Aggression at Tajen University in Taiwan and lectured on USAR at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan, lectured on Tactical K9 Obedience and Controlled Aggression to the Chinese Working Police Dog Association in Hohhot Mongolia, China in August 2016, given Patrol Handling and Decoy Seminars for Australian Federal Police, Queensland Australia Corrections, Brazilian Federal Police and Military, and Belizean Corrections. Jerry has taught seminars to the US Military (USAF, US Army, and Special Operations) in South Korea, Germany, Alaska, and lower 48 states regularly for the past 10 years. He has also taught competition seminars for the sport of PSA in Canada, South Africa, India, Costa Rica, Malaysia, and Australia, as well as all across the US. Jerry has given over 100 seminars to police, military, and competition audiences in his career, as well as written over 60 professional articles in his field. Jerry has written for Dog Sport Magazine, Malinois Handler, Working Dog Magazine, Police K9 Magazine, K9 Cop Magazine, The Canine Professional Journal, USPCA’s Canine Courier, The Journal, Tell Tail (India), Creature Companion (India), and as well has written a book, Controlled Aggression, which is rapidly becoming the standard text for understanding the fundamentals of canine aggression training for police service, personal protection, and competitive dog sports. Jerry’s newest book Police K9 Unit Administration is forthcoming in March 2019. Jerry’s weekly Podcast Controlled Aggression (www.ControlledAggressionPodcast.com) is fast becoming a training information resource for Police K9 handlers and trainers and sport competitors.

Before becoming a dog, trainer Jerry was an award-winning teacher and college instructor in Economics at Virginia Tech, UNC-Chapel Hill, Meredith College, Elon University, he now lives in Sanford, NC with his girlfriend Stefanie and way too many dogs!

4 Week Basic Narcotics K9 Course

Date: March 9th- April 3rd, 2020

Meyer’s Police Canine Training is offering a 4 week (160 hour) basic K9 handler’s course in Chico, California. This course is designed to provide the basic skills necessary, to the handler and canine to perform as a law enforcement canine team. Our training facility is comprised of over 7 acres of ideal training grounds, including on site lodging and dog kennels. Canines will be certified to California POST standards at the completion of the course for narcotics functions. Other state standards may be implemented if needed.

A complete K9 manual will be provided to the handler along with a K9 case law update class during the course. Also a K9 medical course will be provided at no additional charge.

This course is designed to provide the basic skills necessary, to the handler and canine to perform as a law enforcement canine team. Our training facility is comprised of over 7 acres of ideal training grounds, including on site lodging and dog kennels. Canines will be dual certified to California POST standards at the completion of the course for patrol and detection functions. Other state standards may be implemented if needed.

5 Week K9 Trainer's Course

Meyer’s Police K9 Training is offering a 5 week (200 hour) K9 trainer’s course. This course is designed to provide a great base line for initial and ongoing maintenance training for Police and Military K9’s. Our very experienced staff will provide hands on training and exposure to initial K9 training for Patrol and Detection along with exposure to weekly police maintenance training. The students will work side by side with an instructor for 5 weeks. We will teach you how to keep your K-9 unit up to speed with new K9 Training techniques and tactics.

This course includes a K9 Case Law Update Course and K9 medical course

One Day K9 Case Law Update Course

Date: March 27th, 2020 Time: 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM

This one-day K-9 Case Law Update Seminar is designed to educate and update canine handlers, canine administrators, Deputy District Attorneys and others involved in canine deployments, training, liability and prosecution. This course will provide the students with up to date canine case law regarding detection and apprehension canines. Our instructor, Elizabeth Norton, currently a Supervising Deputy District Attorney, will help canine handlers and administrators better understand canine liability, case law and courtroom presentation. We will cover policies, compensation issues, report writing, courtroom testimony, use of force, suspect interviews, injury documentation, detection canine legal issues, and other topics. In addition, Elizabeth is an expert in narcotics cases, including marijuana and BHO cases, she will discuss how the new California Marijuana laws can affect you. Each student will be provided a canine manual.

Two Day K9 Agitator Course

Date: April 7th & April 8th, 2020

Meyer’s Police Canine Training is offering a two day K9 agitator class in Chico. This class is designed to teach the student/handler how to properly present agitation equipment and read police working dogs. This two day class will teach the student/handler how to properly use a body suit, bite sleeve, hidden sleeve and conduct muzzle agitation, cage work and high finds.

We will provide all the necessary training equipment for the class but students/handlers are encouraged to bring their own equipment if possible. Students/handlers are also encouraged to bring dogs to participate in the class but it is not required.
